What’s it all about?
Our future is no joke – it’s not an April Fool’s prank, nor a distant utopia. It is real and tangible. It belongs to all of us: the children growing up here, the friends who support us, the neighbors who are there for one another, and the city that connects us.
We are all shaping our future – in ways both small and large, through volunteering or through our careers. On April 1st at the Altmarkt, we want to shine a special spotlight on the many people whose commitment makes Dresden a place worth living in:
Artists, musicians, and cultural workers who keep our city vibrant and alive.
Librarians who make knowledge accessible to everyone.
Public transport drivers who get us safely to our destinations.
Teachers and educators who prepare young people for the future.
Nurses, doctors, and therapists who maintain our health.
Coaches who promote physical activity and team spirit.
Activists fighting for clean air, biodiversity, forests, rivers, and a livable city.
Social workers who listen to young people and create new perspectives.
Volunteers in neighborhood centers who combat loneliness and strengthen the community.
...and many others who make our city worth living in.
Crises and austerity measures are dividing us. But we say: Enough! We stand together for a better tomorrow – for a city where we can all live well.
Why now?
Many people are struggling: not enough money, expensive housing, poorly paid jobs. Crises and wars cause fear and uncertainty. In sectors vital to social cohesion and a good quality of life—such as social services, infrastructure, mobility, and culture—funding is becoming increasingly scarce. This must change. We want a city where everyone belongs. Our future is not predetermined – we live it every day. We are the ones making sure it’s a good one.
What are our goals?
As actors and organizers, we acknowledge one another and reaffirm the incredible potential for shaping social change.
We want decision-makers in politics and administration to see that financial decisions are never just about individual issues. A city society is held together by many small pieces. We need a greater focus on the "big picture" and a simultaneous strengthening of our fundamental values.
What’s happening?
5:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Speeches, music, participation, being loud and being present – we stand together!
